"Gary Ty Johnson has claimed his place in the spotlight stroking the ears of the masses with his sultry baritone and clear tenor vocals. The title of his new CD says it all in few simple words, "Prince of Hearts" which derived from a heart shaped vein in his right arm. Gary's presence and talent is moving in the music industry like a windstorm, making a path with ease." April Sutton -BET
The Alaskan born, "perfect pitched" artist first discovered he could sing at the age of 6. According to Gary "I just stood in the mirror and imitated my dad, The Isleys, Stevie Wonder, James Brown, The Temptations and Nat King Cole" Once his parents heard him they began cultivating his artistic gifts, His mother often sang to him and encouraged him to learn the piano and his father taught him lead vocals and would keep him up late nights to sing around the living room piano. The young songster started winning contests with his first appearance in elementary school. By the age of 14 Gary started taking formal music lessons and began singing and composing original songs. Gary and his older brother Oliver and other close singing friends would perform city wide throughout Los Angeles and later eldest brother Anthony would join in on the act. During this time, Gary as a well-trained singer, dancer and martial artist, was picked to dance on a Dick Clark after school dance special called “The Music Thing”. Because of this, Gary became an unwilling celebrity and was often asked to sing and perform at school concerts and special occasions, which he willingly did. During his last year in high school where he had consistently received numerous musical accolades and honors and “one time only” district awards of merit, he had already completed the majority of his high school credits, thus with just one class to go to, he was bussed to a vocational college where he acquired a certification as a Computer Operator. “After my high school years, I was the original computer operator by day and serious singer/performer by night.”
Gary’s performance venues began to grow. He was often requested to perform at events for major network news personalities. Gary was a 4.0 computer science student in college and on free nights he would perform at local nightclubs. One of his early mentors was the late Miss Evelyn Beal, mother of the legendary single Lou Rawl. Miss Beal hosted a certain famed nightclub in Los Angeles whereat Gary often perform as special guest. After many singing engagements throughout the city, Gary attracted the attention of Tuccar records. Gary collaborated with the owner to release a smash single titled “Love Volcano”. This led Gary to establish his first music publishing company. The song became a #1 hit and still thrives online worldwide today.
While breaking ground in the acting field, Gary was offered a hot tip from his older brother to audition as the film double for the phenomenal tap dancer Gregory Hines for the movie "TAP". This led to an introduction to the legendary Sammy Davis Jr., The Nicholas Brothers, Tony-winning choreographer Henry Le Tang who also choreographed the movie “Cotton Club” and master tapper Savion Glover. Shortly after the release of the movie, Gary’s managing mom introduced him to renowned Motown producer of the Jackson Five, Mr. Hal Davis who immediately started supplying him with numerous songs for an album project. Due to internal company changes, Mr. Davis’s office was closed. Back at work while on another set at Paramount Studios, Gary was introduced to Epic Records R&B/funk band Z’Look. Gary sang on the first single titled “Girl Dance With Me” which quickly became a radio hit. Around this time as a singer and songwriter, Gary decided to expand his career to include music scoring for TV and film. This began with his first TV score for a comedy on a Spanish network. The project was a success! While continuing to promote himself as a singer and actor, he accepted an offer to model as the doctor for Charter Hospital. The national campaign included billboards across the country. The promotion was a nationwide success! The shots were taken by renowned photographer Steve Harvey, famed photographer for Bugle Boy Clothing, Michael Jackson’s “Off The Wall” album etc. As Gary worked the campaigns grew. Gary soon became poster boy for Universal Studios “THE EARTHQUAKE RIDE”.
THE “STEP ASIDE” ALBUM. By 2003 Gary had signed a record deal with PPL records. The label was distributed by Sony/Redd distribution. Known then as Gary J, Gary released an album called "STEP ASIDE" which was considered "a bolt out of the blue" and "sophisticated soul excellence" by Soul Express CD Review. Target's online retailer reviews: "Gary J adds up-to-the-minute flavor to hip-hop and R&B". In 2004 while quickly acquiring a large fans base abroad in Belgium, England and France, the CD received first tier Grammy nods. J. Jarrett, the label CEO stated "Gary has developed a Cult Following over there". While the album was released, Gary obtained the attention of film and TV producers. A selection from the album titled "Tell Me Why" became the theme song for the straight to DVD film "A Fight For Glory". It was around this time Gary was developing a promotional tour since the CD "shot up like a bullet" in the UK and surrounding territories. While swamped in rehearsals and in-store meet-n-greets, Gary's loving and managing mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer. To the understanding of the label, Gary quickly got out of the business to take care of his mom on a full time basis with the help of his loving sister Opal, two brothers, girlfriend, aunts and relatives until the very day of his mother’s departure. Gary did not return to the record label; however the CD is still selling very well online.
Back on the scene in 2006 after doing a national modeling campaign for Dave and Buster's Restaurant brochures and ads, Gary took on a national modeling campaign for AT&T’s TREO. The photographer was the famed Tom Hussey, photographer for Pizza Hut, American Airlines and 7UP etc. Again! A national success!

Mike Serrette
Writer: Lyrics, Musician
From the movie screen to the television screen... from the stage to the studio... the multi-talented artist, Mike Serrette, has ventured down all of these roads. Yet, being a progressive thinker, he frequently reminds himself, “ The best is yet to come”.
This native New Yorker began his creative journey as a drummer, working with a wide range of stars such as: Doug E. Fresh, Martha & the Vandellas, Ollie Woodson, and Esther Satterfield. Then, one day, Mike and the rap producer, Bill Moore, recorded a rough demo of a geopolitical rap tune, called “The Big Throwdown”, with Mike rapping and playing most of the instruments. They quickly landed deals with the legendary R&B label, Brunswick Records, as well as Rissa Chrissa Recorcds, which both decided to use the rough demo to press records. So, in 1981, “The Big Throwdown” (released with the group name of South Bronx ), became one of the first rap records with “serious political lyrics” to get airplay. It was an amazing feat for a rough demo, especially by an artist not known as a rapper !
After releasing the high-energy follow-up tune, “The Bottom Line”, Mike moved to Los Angeles, into a different world of opportunity: acting. First, he performed in a commercial for the 1988 Olympics, with Lakeside band members, Fred Alexander Jr. and Barrinton “Bo” Henderson, as well as the NBC newscaster, Fritz Coleman.
Shortly after that, Mike assumed the stage name of Michael Bedrock, and continued in his new direction. Next, America would see him on an episode of the hit sitcom, Who’s the Boss, as a bartender serving drinks to Tony Danza and "the one and only"... Frank Sinatra. Some special business appearances on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Married with Children (as well as other top shows) soon followed. Mike even had fun on the big screen in the Kid ‘n Play movie, Class Act, in which he photo-doubled for Doug E Doug in part of a car chase scene.
The merging of Mike’s artistic skills took place when he met respected director, Ed Cambridge. Ed offered him the chance to act and play in the band for the stage play, Made to Order, starring Marla Gibbs, Esther Rolle and others. Mike felt honored, and went on to handle his “double-duty” brilliantly.
Well, eventually, everything in life seems to come full-circle... and once again, Mike Serrette is focusing on his first love : music. He has even come 360 degrees with his name, using his original name instead of Michael Bedrock. A new, solo project is in the works. An online music label (which he co-owns with recording artist Gary Ty Johnson) is forthcoming. And collaborations continue. So, stay tuned... “the best is yet to come!
